Challenge

Building Yahrzeit Reminder for iOS 26.2 came with unique technical and user-experience challenges. Unlike traditional reminder apps, Hebrew dates begin at sunset—not midnight—so the app had to calculate time based on a user’s exact location, time zone, and daylight saving changes. That created complex edge cases around date rollovers, background refresh behavior, and calendar syncing. We also needed seamless Apple Calendar integration and reliable notifications without duplicate entries or timing errors. From a UX perspective, the challenge was translating a deeply meaningful religious tradition into a clean, intuitive interface that felt respectful, calming, and easy to use during an emotional time.

Solution

We designed a modular, AI-assisted development workflow tailored for iOS 26.2, using SwiftUI’s reactive architecture to automatically update dates in real time as conditions changed. AI tools helped accelerate testing, validate edge cases, and streamline debugging, allowing for rapid iteration and smarter problem-solving. We built a robust sunset-based date engine to ensure accurate Hebrew date conversions and implemented intelligent refresh triggers to keep the interface synchronized without user friction. On the experience side, we applied user-centered design principles—clear navigation, thoughtful microcopy, and progressive disclosure—to reduce cognitive load. The result is a technically sound, emotionally intuitive app that simplifies complex calendar logic into a seamless, trustworthy experience.
